With Triple J’s iconic Australia Day countdown just over a month away, online bookmaker Sportingbet.com.au has ignited debate over which song will be voted the number one hit of 2014 by releasing its betting market.
Sportingbet’s market has Sia’s Chandelier as its $4 favourite, ahead of Stolen Dance by Milky Chance at odds of $5.
“Both songs have attracted millions of Youtube hits and have been overwhelmingly successful in Australia and abroad, so we expect them to be around at the pointy end of the countdown,” said Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown.
“It was hard to split them but money usually talks with this particular market and our punters will quickly let us know if we’ve got it wrong by backing their favourite tunes.”
Peking Duk’s High has been installed a $6 third favourite by Sportingbet, just in front of Talk Is Cheaper by Chet Faker at $8 and Seasons (Waiting On You) by Future Islands at $9.
Earlier this year, Vance Joy’s Riptide was a $4 second favourite at Sportingbet when it upset heavy odds-on pop Royals by Lorde to take 2013 song of the year honours.
Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know was the shortest priced favourite in Triple J Hottest 100 history when it won at odds of $1.11 with Sportingbet in 2012.
