After steaming into the Tigers to run last only a week ago, punters with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au have bet more money on Robbie Farah’s side winning Friday night’s clash against the Bunnies than they have on the short priced Rabbitohs.
The Tigers are at the biggest price of any team in round three – $4.75 – with the Bunnies at the shortest quote ($1.16).
On top of calling for that early upset, League punters are also starting to sing ‘Eagle Rock’ with Manly once again the second best backed side to win the 2014 NRL Premiership, firming from $9.00 into $7.50.
Here’s the latest on what NRL punters are talking about around the water cooler today:
Tigers v Bunnies: The Rabbits poor outing against Manly hasn’t stopped them being opened as the shortest priced team of the round – priced at $1.16 here – but the punters, no doubt buoyed by the Tigers trouncing of the Titans, have jumped on Mick Potter’s men with 53% of all money bet on the game so far on the Tigers despite being rank $4.75 outsiders.
Broncos v Roosters: Punters are backing the Roosters – $1.55 favourites for this clash – to end the Broncos undefeated start to the year with money narrowly in their favour in head to head betting. The Broncs are $2.55 outsiders at home. The Chooks have also been crunched to cover the -4.0 point line set by Sportsbet.
Panthers v Bulldogs: Fresh off smashing the toothless Sharks, punters have launched into the Bulldogs and as a result they’ve firmed from $2.44 into $2.25 in 24 hours. Money is 8 to 1 in their favour in head to head betting. The Panthers have eased from $1.56 out to $1.60.
Sharks v Dragons: The Dragons have simply been ‘backed off the map’ to make it 3-from-3 with bets coming in 10 to 1 for the Red V. They’ve firmed from $1.80 into $1.70 and their price will continue to tumble if money keeps flooding in. The line is a skinny -2.5 but that will balloon if this keeps up.
Cowboys v Warriors: Punters expect the blow torch will be turned right up on Warriors coach Matt Elliot after this one with money 4 to 1 for the Cowboys, who are now into $1.33.
Manly v Eels: The most bet on game of round 3, money is 6 to 1 for Manly, who are into the skinny quote of $1.22. The Eels price is slithering backwards and they’re out to $4.00 already.
Raiders v Titans: Despite being opened as $1.53 favourites, money is 50/50 for the Raiders and Titans ($2.38) so far. Punters aren’t going anywhere near the -4.5 line that’s currently on offer
Storm v Knights: Money is 5 to 1 for the Storm to keep the Knights winless in 2014. They’re into $1.28 from $1.34 with Newcastle out to $3.40.
The Roosters have moved back to Premiership favourites, firming from $5.00 into $4.50, ahead of the Bunnies ($5.00), Melbourne ($7.00) and Manly ($9.00 into $7.00).
In terms of who is the best supported to win the Premiership, the Roosters are top dogs followed by Manly, North Queensland, Rabbitohs and Bulldogs. The Titans are the worst supported team.
