The AFL Women’s competition was a huge hit with punters in round one, with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au receiving more bets on the Carlton v Collingwood clash than all of the NBL games and two of the five A-League matches over the weekend.
The Bulldogs v Freo and Melbourne v Brisbane fixtures also received more support from punters than both the Phoenix v Wanderers and Glory v Jets A-League matches.
There were some huge changes to the premiership market as well…..the Western Bulldogs ($4.50 into $2.75) displaced Fremantle ($4.25 out to $7.50) as favourites after their dominant victory over the Dockers.
Carlton, Adelaide and Brisbane also firmed in betting following opening round wins.
“Fans voted with their feet in favour of the AFL Women’s competition and punters have done the same over the course of the opening round,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.
