TEST SELECTOR MARK WAUGH COMING OUT OF RETIREMENT

As national selector, Mark Waugh demands runs and wickets from his players but today he’ll have to practice what he preaches when he comes out of retirement to play in the inaugural Sportsbet T20 game at Sydney’s Drummoyne Oval.

Just hours after the first test squad is named, Waugh will don the pads for the first time in a long time and no doubt feast on a bowling attack made up of members of the cricketing media who’ve been invited along by online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au.

The Waugh XI will take on the Smith XI, led by former New South Wales wicketkeeper Daniel Smith.

“It’s a real shame Twenty20 took off after Mark Waugh retired because he would’ve been one of the greats in that format as well. After spending hours pondering over the first test team locked away in a boardroom, the prospect of a mediocre at best bunch of media will be a welcome change for him. I for one won’t be bowling anything near his pads,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.
