Playing off scratch for 30 years, golfer Mick Innes has copped plenty of flak from his mates for never jagging a hole in one, despite playing nearly every day of his life and working at a driving range.
So at the start of this year, Mick put his money where his mouth is, pledging $500 to research into Motor Neurone Disease if he can’t get an ace by the end of 2017. The catch? All of his Facebook friends pledge $10 each if he gets that hole in one before January 1, 2018.
Online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au will also throw in $5,000 to charity if he’s successful, so the bookie has organised a truckload of balls to be dumped on the tee at Albert Park Golf Course tomorrow.
Mick will have 3 hours to swing his arms off from the same tee, in a last-ditch attempt to get the cash.
“We’ve been backing Mick to get the hole in one all year but we’re running out of time so we’re not letting him off that tee until he gets an ace. We’re giving him three hours to have a crack and we reckon he’ll get the job done,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.
