Cate Blanchett should start clearing more room in her trophy cabinet according to punters who have heavily backed her to win both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for her performance in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine.
Just hours after winning the New York Film Critics Award for Best Actress, Blanchett’s odds of winning the best dramatic actress Golden Globe in Hollywood this weekend have firmed from $1.20 into $1.14 at online bookmaker Sportingbet, reflecting a better than 75% probability of victory in the five-strong field. Sandra Bullock is a $5.50 second favourite for her role in Gravity.
It’s a similar story in the Best Actress category of the Academy Awards where Blanchett’s odds of winning the Oscar have tumbled from $1.25 into $1.20 at Sportingbet, putting her well clear of Bullock at odds of $5.
“It may be a reflection of how patriotic our punters are but they are completely convinced Cate is set to reap the rewards for her superb performance,” Sportingbet spokesman Andrew Brown said.
Historical drama 12 Years A Slave is a $1.25 favourite to win the Golden Globe for Best Picture Drama and $1.65 favourite to win the Best Picture Academy Award.
